Hi everyone, I'm 57 yrs old, haven't studied for many, many years and just enrolled for the Health and Social Care Course. To say I'm worried would be an understatement , yikes!! Anyone here done this course or can give me tips on online studying and how to get the old brain used to study again ? :-)

Thanks for your reply. You are doing very well with all the courses you are doing, and lucky that you can take the VQ route. i must admit its a bit daunting to be studying again after all this time, but if its the only thing i can do to increase my job prospects.

Ive just received my pack today, and the information booklet advises reading through everything before you start studying. so thats what ill do first. I had registered for online learning so not sure why they sent me the study pack out, must contact them about that.

Thanks again, you may hear from me in the not so distant future :-)

you shouldnt worry about the welcome pack, its just to let you know the rules and your log-in details.

i have done courses on the paper and on-line and i like the on-line best as you can look at all you have to do rather than waiting on the paper coming through the post.

when i started studying again i really struggled, until i set up my own little corner that was for study only. i do all my typing and reading there...seems to help me x lol

i just think it is great that you have the courage to get back into study :o) and if you need any help, please give me a shout. i really am happy to help when i can

Hi again. Since your last msg I hadn't started studying as I've had a busy time lately.

However, I still can't access my lessons online(there isn't an icon next to the lesson to click on), even though I have a green tick in the paid box . I had presumed that I was registering for the online access, so not sure where the mistake is from, me or e-learn. I have sent a few emails to them last week, but for some reason they are not getting through and sent back, because of some error or other. So guess ill have to phone on Monday if my latest email doesn't get through.

I have just recently started reading through the first unit the past few evenings, and will send the paper in tomorrow hopefully, once I've sorted out how to answer :-). Not sure how much detail is required for 2 point and 5 pt questions, even though the booklet mentions a similar no. of lines, I wonder if that is really enough. Trial and error I guess.....

How do you send in your paper, via email attachment to the Tutor or just answer in your online account?

Thanks again for being so patient and replying back. Have a nice weekend

hi there x have you gone onto the 'view lessons' on the navigation panel on the left of the screen? you should be able to click on that and it should let you see all the lessons and the tests for your course.

im doing two courses at the moment, one paper and one on line. I save all my answer to a word doc and for the on-line I copy and paste over to the test and then hit the submit. I would suggest doing this as if you just complete the test on the site and submit, the site doesn't save your work.
for the paper one I log on and submit the word doc from my student zone.

the points for each question, don't worry too much about this (ive never) I have answered one question worth 10 with two sentences and another worth 5 with 500 words. it really as long as you have answered the question.

hope this is a little help :o/ x

Busy, busy....2 courses at once, and here's me finding it hard to start one ......

Yes, I did go through the left hand side column as the email I received when I first registered told me. I can 'see' the lessons listed......no tests. But where they mentioned that there would be an icon to click on next to the lesson I wanted to open......I have no icon!!! Weird.

It would be great to be able to submit the test online. But until I get this sorted out, looks like the quickest method I have, would be to write on Word doc and then send an email attachment to the tutor.

Until next time ;-), enjoy your study

Hi Brian,

It's all going well thanks!

I managed to sort it all out, and after sending my first test in by email, ( and I passed), I uploaded the 2nd one on site, and just got the result today....passed again, (sigh of relief).

So I did what you also suggested, and save the doc and then uploaded it. Good for a reference too. I use the text book, but I think I could change over to online study if I wish, however I'm okay the way I am.

Thanks so much for asking about how I'm doing, it feels nice to know that someone is supporting you and I can ask you for help if need be.

Have a nice week end
