Hi Rebecca,
I would say go in person to introduce yourself and ask to make an appointment to go back for a more in depth chat about your work experience. You making the effort to go in person shows you are interested and committed. Its harder for people to say 'no' in person too :-).

I would telephone first and find out whom you should be speaking too. Then do a meet and greet, followed by a thank you letter for their time. Keep pushing, but not too pushy. Good luck.

I agree with Kayt, maybe it's better to go in person, have a good CV in hands with a cover letter explaining why you are so interested in practicing and learning veterinary work, ask if possible to meet the responsible person, so that you can explain face to face your goal and interest, and try to convince (sell yourself, hehe) to accept you. I hope all goes well for you, I know it can be hard, I've been through that, and even so it's always stressful when we badly need to practice or find a job! Fingers crossed! good luck dear
