TA Level 3 specialist stlis course Unit 7 Questions 1d and 1e

I'm having real problems getting my head around this assignment.. Can anyone translate 'Interact with children and young people in a way that values diversity and respects cultural, religious and ethnic differences' into plain ol' English..? There doesn't seem to be much guidance in my course books and  I'm finding it difficult to relate a lot of the course work to my placement (which at the moment is just working with readers in a church school setting). Any examples or help would be greatly appreciated :) x x

Hi. 1d: I ran a sewing activity to make a felt xmas angel decoration. One child did not celebrate Xmas so child chose to make a felt ball decoration thus still inclusive. During sessions, we discussed xmas, children's experiences  and child's own cultural celebrations etc.

Have you worked with children from different backgrounds, culture, SEN needs - in playing a game? have the books children been reading given you the opportunity to ask different questions to your readers as they have different experiences? has there been a chance to discuss diversity from the text?

Diversity=when working with children you will come across children from different backgrounds and cultures, (a diverse group of children) or who may follow a different religion. If your doing an activity especially if it a group activity you will need to make sure you have thought about every child and if the work you are doing may affect them or restrict them from doing that activity. Like Tsui explained about the activity about making xmas decorations. You say you work in a church, What type of church is it ? you could talk about the religious aspect to it. Are you involving each child in this activity. Are you allowing the children to explore other religions ? If you cant give example ask your tutor if you can use a made up senario to show that you are capable of showing this. I really struggled with this too.
