Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning - New Students!

I have just enrolled to do the Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning course and this is the first time I have been a student in 22 years!  Understandably, I am a little nervous about it all as I have been out of education for so long, but I decided to bite the bullet and get signed up so I can develop a second career which I can fit in around my children in school.

Just wondering where everyone else is at this point in their lives and if anyone is in a similar situation to me?

Hi Sarah , you are not alone, I have been out of education for a long time too. I am not doing the specialist support course but was equally as nervous I am about three quarters of the way through my course now and found every one including my tutor Fiona extremely helpful. Good luck with your course.

Hello, Ameco. You have to submit your questionnaire and answers when you are ready. Meantime, you can study. You submit them to your tutor. If you have any problem, just post here in problems, as tutors do not reply to any problems or else you can request a call back from the home page.

Write a reply   Hi Sarah, I've recently started the same course and like you its been 30 years for me, I work overseas in a special needs school, so thought I should at least get some qualification for when I return to the UK,  my mentor has been advising me how to approach it all,  main thing keep calm,  don't get overwhelmed,  I  assign certain days where I do the assignment reading up and answering the questions, and then certain days to gather my evidence (as I work in the school) that makes it easier for me.  You will find a way that suits you as we are all different, but its nice to know there are like minded people who are in the same boat.

Hi Sarah. You've taken the hard step of deciding so well done! I am doing the same course and I have completed the first 2 units. I work part time and use 2 afternoons to study whilst the children are at school, and then whenever extra I can, in the evenings. As long as I am disciplined I can keep on track with the work. I set myself targets for each unit but don't get worried if I miss them as I am still studying and answering questions. Some units are longer than others. As Elizabeth suggests, assign certain days for studying and you will be fine. Good luck. Let us know how you find the course.

Hi all, I am currently a TA in a school and completed a degree last year even though my degree was in early childhood working in a school is a completely new experience to me and I found the modules in this course would help me understand my role better. I have just started assignment one and I am finding it very interesting :) has anyone else been in an school environment and found some elements challenging?

Hi Sarah
I have just decided to do my Level 4 TA qualification (HLTA).  I started volunteering in a primary school and eventually got qualified to teach groups of children and get some  employment as well.
At the moment i am finding the level 4 course a challenge but at the end of it it will be another string to my bow.

good luck with your course and don't forget to contact your tutor if your ever stuck

Wil you really qualified and accredited? If someone knows, please inform me. I am not from the UK and I need accreditation for Psychology Advanced Level 4. Good Luck to all of you!

Well, I have taken that all important first step and opened the textbook! I have waited until how to get half term out of the way so I can really get stuck in and concentrate. It wasn't half as scary as I thought it would be and I am now stocked up with post-it notes and page markers to make a start on making notes. Big achievement after 22 years. Go me! lol

Hi I to have just opened the text book and am busy writing notes I'm doing the same course as you I think and have waited for my daughter to go back to school so I could start in peace as ots been 27yrs since I did any sort of studying. I have started the first assignment now but I'm wondering what is the acceptable length the answers should be to each question e.i should they be a few paragraphs long or should they all be answered in full blown essay mode . Any help will do my brain hasn't started functioning yet lol

Hey I have started with first assignment, well I've answered questions 1a anyway. I have made any notes but I am reading the text then re-reading and high lighting. What do we have to do for the portfolio we submit at the end??? And do we have to fill in the reflective journal every time we are in placement???

Jade, could you please ask your tutor or post it as a problem? From my Course, I know that we have to submit the questionnaire and the answers. Or you can call them. Sometimes, tutors don't reply... unfortunately.

When posting, you can see the headline saying questions, announcements, the last one is problems above, so you can post it there and require a reply from the Support Team of Stonebridge. First of all, go to categories and there you are!

Hi guys, I'm looking into doing the level 3 ta qcf, is it possible to do this online or is it a case of having to post each assignment to the tutor? Thank you

Hello. I am in the process of signing up for this course but I'm in two minds. I'm an older mum with a young boy and haven't studied for nearly 30 years! :-(  I'm worried I may find it too hard. I don't have a placement in a school yet either but I need to do something different as my job right now is mind numbing! Is the coursework difficult? Thanks everyone.

all the answers to the essay questions are in the text book so its just a case of rading and putting into your own words. I also dont have a placement yet- but to be honest i havent made much effort in looking for one
