NCFE Level 3 Teaching Assistant, unit 5 practical assessments

I'm just beginning unit 5 of this course, where the practical assessment element begins. I've been in school placement since October last year and took part of loads of different lessons. I've made notes about these but don't know if I should have completed an assessment form, or whether these forms are to be used when you reach unit 5.
Confused! Does anyone have any feedback please?

Hi Trish
I must admit, I found unit 5 a challenge! So for what I'm expected to know, I wrote 'to have good communication skills, to promote diversity, know the school's behaviour policy' and so on. This info is available in course notes so you'll be ok to find it. I also went on the NOS website and printed some standards out. Try searching for TDASTL1, TDASTL2, TDASTL4, TDASTL6. For the evidence column, I looked at what I did to achieve the standards. Then the final column, it's all about gaining more experience and attending training courses.
Hope that helps!
Michelle

What form do you use for the mentor to give you feedback on for4b. Is it the 2 page reflective form. The 2 forms in this assignment have me confused as they are similar and one is a journal one is a form.

I've always used is called the 'session journal and reflective record' for all my activities. This form came with my welcome pack so I photocopied loads and I hand-write them after each class before I forget what I want to add. Doing it this way helps me, as I can hand them to the class teacher for sign off too. There's a few versions of the same session form which is a bit confusing so I just picked one and stuck with that.

Unit 5, q5b: I talked about teacher and other TA's giving me feedback and advice, plus my mentor and college tutor; I talked about doing additional online or in-house training courses; Staff meetings can update you on the latest policy changes; then the review and appraisal system.
I gave examples of where I've extended my learning through courses, obtaining lesson plans or getting feedback from staff. I handed out second sheet on the appraisal form to my teachers and TA's. This is in the supporting documents section of unit 5.
I really found Unit 5 hard work, as it seemed a big jump from all the theory to so much of a hands-on approach. Units 6 and 7 are more straight forward.
Good luck!

I found this one tricky. Do you have the course text book? This was helpful in filling the table in. I also looked up the National Occupational Standards to help me identify what I'm 'expected' to know.

The evidence of current performance was easier to compete, as I referenced this to what I do in class. So for example, with equality, I support EAL children so I'm mindful to treat all within the learning group the same way, making sure the EAL children understand and keep up.. My school have a behaviour chart in class as well as the class rules, so I remind children of these as a way of promoting good behaviour.

For the developing section, I looked for gaps in my knowledge and experience, like attending a Health and Safety course or broadening my knowledge on the school curriculum to help with supporting learning activities.

Sorry if it's not much help! It is a tough one. Good luck

I too am stuck. I am not on this type of course. I’m in college. I have written my Learning journal for Literacy and numeracy project on the activity. It needs to be in my next week. It’s the Assessment for Learning and the Learning Activity Project Write Up I am confused with.
Do I do the Project Write up as a learning journal? Or as a word document? I have to re-do a maths activity as my first one didn’t go as planned. And include ICT. Are there any websites that include ‘space’ topic work for maths? Thanks
