I have just enrolled today but I am confused about several things, if anyone can help I would appreciate the advice.

I am just finishing my level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools at college and wanted to get a head start on level 3, I have never done a level 3 course before or an online course. I have started my first assignment but I am writing way, way more than the recommended word count and that is keeping it as basic as possible and cutting out loads of the info I thought would be needed to answer the question, so not sure if I am over thinking things or not and wondered if anyone could offer some advice.

Also having never done a level 3 before I have not had to reference any work before and not sure exactly when I need to do this but noticed a few questions told me to quote any sites I visit for research, I have looked up how to reference and can see what I need to put but I am confused as to exactly when I need to use referencing as seems to me that I would be referencing every paragraph I write as the info all comes from somewhere - or am I overthinking that too?

On each of the questions on unit 1, there is an option for me to add any supporting evidence, is this something that I should be doing now or is this always there and will it be obvious when it is required of me to provide evidence?

Sorry if this all sounds very basic and something I should already know but it is holding me back from going any further for fear of doing it wrong and I am worrying I have made a mistake signing up for the course and not having anyone to refer to doesn't help.

Many thanks in advance :-)

Hi & welcome! :)

I've just finished my first assignment on this course and passed all except 1 question, the idea is to use the word count as an approximate count for your paper its up to you whether you want to make it 300 words or more it depends on how in depth you want to be. I made sure I had at least the 300 words required the most important thing is to fully answer the question being asked, I've had to resubmit q5 as I misunderstood the question.

As for quotes try not to quote too much from other materials they do allow it but always provide your references. Try to word anything you find in your own way they prefer that to having a load of quotes. I always word what I research in my own way where possible, I've got a not book full of pages of research!

As for the supporting evidence you don't need to include any of the work from the unit books with your returned paper that's for your reference only, you just return the answers to the main question paper and don't forget to type out each question as you go as well.

It's not as daunting as it looks I've done loads of courses with Stonebridge I've got 3 going at present, that's how much I enjoy it!.

Good luck with your studies

Best wishes Janet

HI, thank you for your advice, I rarely quote anything unless is specific to the question or around regulations where a quote would be needed etc so hopefully I won't have too many problems.

I am still doing my level 2 in college and the assignment I am doing there is the same as unit 1 pretty much so I already know all the info for this unit, I have still gone through all the learning materials and actually preferred how it is delivered to how it is in my college so fingers crossed once I get used to writing the assignments I will be ok.

I have done the level 2 equivalent of question 5 so was just using all my notes from that but it says 50 words per role and I easily have way more than 100 so I was worried I was misunderstanding the questions too, I have messaged my tutor with these same questions, although I haven't had a response yet, I know it is early days so not concerned, I will crack on with it and hope for the best.

On another note, I did question 5 yesterday and then all of a sudden i was taken back to the log in screen and as I hadn't saved my work I had lost it all, is this something I should be aware of? Not sure if I should complete in word then copy and paste to submit?

Glad you are enjoying yours, it gives me more confidence to hear from someone else and good luck with yours too

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for your advice, I have heard some bad things about some of the courses from online learning providers, this one included but the course I am doing is the same one offered at my local college so fingers crossed I have no problems with it.

I think from unit 5 that's when you have to submit evidence of the sessions you have done and so on but you need to be in placement from the start of unit 5

hi, I already have a placement but I am in EYFS at the minute and not sure if this is going to count. I have heard that KS2 can be used, I am in both KS1 and KS2 as they are all in the same classroom although they have their separate areas, they also have shared areas too. I am going to take my documents in on Monday and get them signed as it can't hurt for now and then I can always look for another placement when it comes to a later date.

For citations, I use the website Cite This For Me. I use 'Harvard style'. You just choose Book, Journal, Website etc. If you're citing a website, you just paste in the URL and it gives you the proper citation format, that you can simply paste into your work. If you are citing a book, you can just enter the ISBN and it will do the rest.
