Hello Claire, another Claire here :-)  I would be happy to buddy up with you.

I have recently started this diploma.  I am just about throught the first unit.  Am starting my placement on Monday 13th April doing 2 days a week voluntarily at my daughter's childminder's. Am also going to be working for the same childminder's 3 days a week as their Administrator.  Not sure what part I'm more worried about!

Hi Claire,

I have recently just finished typing up my final draft of the test for unit 1.1 and it is 21 pages long, and this is without me doing the practical element!  The worst bit was doing the evaluation of the healthy eating schemes, that took me days, and I still don't even know if it's what they really wanted me to do.
My heart sank when I looked at unit 1.2 and discovered I have to do it all again for the healthy lifestyles.
I have 1 son who is 22 years old and is currently at Southampton Uni and a daughter who is 10 in a couple of weeks, so I will find my home life / study life juggling easier than you!
My email is clairepulfer@yahoo.co.uk if you want to contact me directly, or I am on Facebook, I think we're both members of the Stonebridge members groups that relate to this diploma.

Yes I've noticed that. My ILP states a start date of 22 June sp I was wondering if that might be why. I might email tutor to find out.

Not sure if you've worked it out or not yet but I've found you can't view lessons online as they are all within the course handbook. You should just be able to view the test questions online.

Hi I was wondering how everyone is combining their placements with everyday life. I work full time and am going to a nursery for placement once a week. Am finding it difficult to juggle work/home/placement. Didn't know whether it would be better to do a week of placement when i have a week off work?

you could do that but then you would be giving up your holidays and would find yourself working 24/7 :/

Hi all,
Just wanting to ask some advice please.
I'm evaluating local and national initiatives and just wanting to ask which local initiatives did you use to evaluate?
Any advice would be so helpful

Hello everyone,
I just started my course as well, I am only at the first unit, trying to complete assignment. I am a little worried about the practical side of the course, as I do not have a placement yet. Is it possible to complete assignment without the practical part?
Also can you please give me some advice on how to find a placement? Volunteering at local nurseries and such? Sorry if I seem a little bit out of place, but is all new to me, and I am working as a full time nanny (ofsted registered) and bit nervous in finding a place to do practice.

Best of luck to everyone :)

You need to have a placement as the assignments require you to use the placement to complete elements of them. This then shows the practical knowledge. I start my placement next Wednesday, doing 9 hours per week at a local preschool as an unpaid volunteer. I just wrote a letter to all preschools and nurseries around me asking if they could take me on.
Hope you sort something.

Thanks for the answers, girls!
I messaged my tutor 3 days ago, and no answer, I was hoping to get some help and information from there. I ill just search for local schools and nurseries and ask for volunteering. I am a bit nervous as deadline of my first assignment is very close...

If you ring them up and explain you haven't a placement yet ( I spoke to James) they should change your deadline!! I'm having the same problem as I thought I could do the practical in my own setting!!! So I now have to find a placement and juggle working full time!!! They said to me a few hours a week somewhere should be fine, if you can't speak to someone to change deadline then James also said to complete the assignment and at the bottom of the practical Questions just write waiting to be sighed by mentor etc!!! Hope this helps a bit

I've just emailed a lots of nurseries, if they could take me as a volunteer, and got some answers back, so I'm very hopeful to find something soon, but still no answer from mentor, so I will probably have to call them..
Thanks for the tips Emma :)
