Hello Emma,

What I've been told is that the course itself is a textbook course, so you work through the book, then do your assignments online, instead of sending them through the post.

My online profile has changed slightly with the lessons coming up, but are followed by error page. I'm not sure why, My book came quickly, have you got your's yet ??

If your still confused and want a kinda study buddy you can email me off this at becca8181@outlook.com

let me know how your getting on.

Hi Jo,

Thanks for your help. I am yet to receive my textbook in the post.

I have emailed the support team and they informed me that our course, (support teaching and learning in schools level 3) don't know if its the same for others is textbook based. So even though you selected the online version you still have to use the hard copy work.

Which i think they should say, as there's an option to pay for hard copies of the course material right before you pay.

Thanks again. Becca

Hi Rebecca! We thought we'd pop in to let you know that our tech team is working on fixing the checkout system so that the hard copy purchase option does not appear for this course. Also, though the course is textbook based, you can still choose the online study option in order to receive the question papers online.

Hope this clears things up a bit. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our Student Support team directly at 01288 356300.

Hi all.
Just started this course having been out of education for 25 years! I have had a quick look through the tests and they seem to be very specific about separating Adult, Children and YP but with not much word allowance. I am wondering if they actually are expecting that tight a breakdown.

Ps I have 3 kids aged 9,15 and 18 and having looked at the communication skill question, I would say my 9 year old makes more sense than my older two at times!! The skill there being learn a whole new language!

I am doing the on line course cache level 3 teaching assistant award in supporting teaching and learning in schools QCF. I am finding the course material very limited how about you? I am about to start q3 on assignment 1.

Hi Jo
Ive just done that question. The problem I think with all of the questions is that they are such big subjects with such a small amount of advised words to use. I have gone over in all three at the moment. I take it you are doing the cultural social and professional one? I would like to have been able to have submitted the other two just to understand what they want before doing all of them! I have the Tina Kamen book too. I think there is enough in there to answer the questions but maybe not if you were completing a full essay on each.

Well done! Are you working already or do you plan to get a job with this qualification?
I have just had a pass notification for assignment 1 and now have three questions left on part two. Hope to send tonight. I am not enjoying section 2 as it is all about policies and legislation and nothing about practical teaching. Hopefully that will come up next.

Hi louisa. Sorry no facebook but you could email mamsfountain@gmail.com. This is a new direction for me after 20 years in leisure but that did include working with children and a lot of swim teaching! I also have three children myself which helps. Recently I have been helping in my youngest childs school teaching swimming and have been offered more voluntary this term. I have also signed up with a supply teaching agency which may help me out with experience. Feel free to email. Off to call the tutor as I am totally fed up with one of these policy questions and it is time to make them useful!!

Hi
I wonder if anyone could help me out with Question 3 on assignment 1 asking about how social, professional and cultural background affects relationships and communication. I'm not sure what is exactly meant by professional background? Also I work as a dinner lady and wonder if it's ok to put examples of things I've experienced while working in a school into my answers if appropriate?
I would really appreciate any advice as haven't done any study for many years.

Hi Michelle, after a delayed start I am about to start q3 on Ass 1. I think I have read on here that personal examples are good to put in your answers. Professional background I am assuming is the work environment ie) a teacher/member of staff within your school environment or out of it too.
anyone who has done this question have any tips? I haven't studied for 22 years since Uni so i'm
getting back into the swing of it again..Also I did have a conversation with my tutor who was really helpful and friendly so I would recommend that too to clarify anything.

Thanks for the reply, I've completed q3 and onto q4 now, do find I keep going back and re-reading my answers and tweaking them though!! Also finding it quite hard as I feel like I'm continually repeating myself with these questions on communication.
I'm now volunteering in a year 1 class once a week so it is helping me with examples which is useful. I'm a mum to a 15 year old and a 12 year old (he has learning difficulties and autism) so alot of it is common sense and stuff I know it is just finding the right way to put it all down on paper.

Thanks Sara, I have applied for a dinner lady job it's only 2 hours a day but would give me some experience. I did the cache diploma in childcare many years ago but messed up the exam so left with nothing. Trying to get back on track is hard after spending 7 years as a stay at home mom :-)

I am really struggling with the course, I am doing the cache level 3 teaching assistant course through Stonebridge online and need to get it done, I am only on the first question, finding it really hard, I need more confidence I think.

I volunteer at a primary school for 8 hours a week and am hoping to apply for a TA job at this school once I have got well into this course.

Any help would be much appreciated, my e-mail address is - lollymummy@gmail.com

Hi Sharon. I have just started question 1 this morning and seem to be struggling a bit too! It would appear by reading the comments on here that this feeling is totally normal. It looks like we have to break down each question and answer it relating to children, young people and adults individually not as a whole. Also real life examples are beneficial to passing. I have just written some and now will have to re write it as I have answered as a whole!
Good luck.

Hi Sarah,

Just to let you know that there are a couple of different versions of similar courses available here, that often contain the same questions but in different assignments. Just letting you know that because although the question may be Q 3b of Assignment 1 on the version that you're currently doing, that same question is Question 7 of Assignment 2, on the version of the course that I'm just finishing. :)

So onto the question about evaulating different methods of communicating a school's Mission, Ethos, Aims & Values;- Have a think about the practical ways a school can share with pupils, parents and the community, what it "wants to be all about".

If you were visiting a school for the first time, where might you see parts of the Ethos, Mission, Aims & Values? Some schools have their ethos integrated into their signage. People can't miss that! Some may have displays in reception that detail the mission or ethos. So they are two examples on how a school could communicate these messages to people. There are other more personal or one to one methods of communication that you may also want to think about.

Good luck!

Try looking up the ones I have given you specifically and you will see how they are related. It may give you some ideas about others. You don't need loads of examples. Just explain the role of the schools within them. You might think of some others you know specifically.

Yes very relieved I am done as this did seem to be a lot of the same!! I think Ass 2 is the most laborious of all of them and took the longest. 3 is easier and four ok. I did get to a point where I was starting to lose interest at one point but decided to give a few hours to it over one day and blitz through rather than bits here and there. It got me going again and I finished soon after. I started mine mid August so it hasn't been too bad. i am doing a Diploma in Dyslexia now so that I have a specialist area and doing two days volunteer work at my youngest Son's school. Hopefully put together, it will give me more of a chance at a permanent position.

wow that's inspiring. I am doing this course now as have had a big operation so whilst I recovering I want to get it finished as wanted to work with children for a long time. I have done volunteering too whilst working in my current job. I think Dyslexia is a great course to do and will help so many. I am dyslexic myself and when I was at school was not really recognised, so I am so pleased children don't have to struggle like I did. Good luck with the course.

Well feel free to email me if you need some help. I can give you some pointers. Sometimes you can look to hard at an answer and over complicate it when it is actually more straight forward than you think. Hope your recovery is going well.
My eldest is dyslexic and we had a real struggle to get it recognised in school and it wasn't until he started college that he was finally diagnosed by the college themselves.

I have struggled with this abit. I based children on the age of the children at the lower school I work in and then thought young person would be a teenager and based my example on my 15 year old son.

if you google sequence of development in children, you will find lots of tables with information of ages and what they should be doing socially, physically etc etc. You will find things like lifting the head, walking, interacting, eating alone etc etc through to teenage years. You will also find some in the text book. I just did a table of my own with the headings across the top, social, physical etc and the ages down the side. I kept the table to just the sequence of development and explained the rate of development in a separate paragraph.

Hope that helps a bit. It is a bit fiddly but I did it in an excel sheet and copied it over to my page

I wrote the answers in my own words but included examples as often as possible in order that it was clear I understood the material. I did use some bits directly for example, information regarding the rate and sequence of development from Teena Karmen but did state where this had come from. Anything direct from text should be referenced.

Forgot to say, you can call the number and ask to be put through to a tutor. Sometimes they are available and sometimes not. They will give you an email address if not but it is general and not to a specific person. I didn't get the impression it was one person dealing with my own work but may be wrong. The course I am doing now has an email address to one lady who speaks to me directly and marks my work which is easier but there is help for you if you need it. They are very nice once you get through!

Assignment 3- Question 1c)
Explain how different social, professional and cultural contexts may affect relationships and the way people communicate e.g.
language
cultural differences
speech, language or communication impairment
sensory impairment
cognitive abilities
emotional state
I am also really unsure about the amount of detail I need to include to pass.

I am happy to help you out if you get stuck on some bits. Feel free to email me on mamsfountain@gmail.com Some of the questions you can answer in the words it suggests but others I was quite a way over on. I felt I was just trying to cut out bits all the time to fit the answer in to the words suggested rather than just write a good answer so didn't worry about that too much in the end. I would just say don't go off at a tangent into irrelevant areas and you will be fine.

Hi Everyone,

I've started doing this course and beginning to regret it - struggling to get my head around any of it. Currently on Assignment 1 and stuck on Q7 - the differences between communicating with adults, children, and young people. Any advice? I'm terrified it's going to get sent back as a fail.

Thanks,

Hi,

What do we write in the professional discussion box on the online submission form?? This bit bemuses me!

Also struggling with some assignment questions being a little repetitive one question says identify 4 policies and the next says discuss 4 policies and procedures?? well if i'm to write approx 200 words for each then how am I to not discuss them in the first one?? Banging head against wall comes to mind!!

Any help greatfully received

Hi,

Does anyone know how you get graded for this course? Once completed do you just get a pass or a fail, or do you get given an actual grade, like an A, B or C etc.?

Thanks,

Hi,

I submitted my first assignment for the CACHE TA level 3 course just over a week ago, I still haven't received my feedback yet. I was wondering how long the process normally takes and I am aware there could be a back log from the christmas holiday just keen to get started on my next assignment.

Thanks,
