Hi Hannah ,
I've just enrolled for this course today, and in fact just posted a question on FB , and on the general community page.

I would be interested in hearing about how you are managing on this course and any tips and ideas you have re studying, planning, tutors help, etc.

I haven't studied for many years, and this is completely new to me and I'm quite anxious.

Thanks

Hi I started my course recently and I passed my 4 units already . Marking is quite slow because while I'm waiting for marking of my 5 unit and did some units in advance (I'm doing my 11) assignment) then i just uploade it and waiting for them to be marked . Its easy to do cos I did my Diploma 2 & 4 before so this level is more interesting then my two diplomas which i've got already . I wish you all good luck . If you need any help . Email me on macnee24@icloud.com

Hello, thanks for your reply.
I have just started reading through the coursework, as since I registered I have had family staying with me for the best part of almost 1 month, so had no spare time:-(

I don't know if you read my other post I posted when I first registered. I explained that I was 57 yrs old and hadn't studied for years, so found the prospect daunting to say the least.

I'm completely not sure how much to actually write for each question, how much detail to provide etc. i have read the booklet that came with the book and the point system it suggests, but a couple of lines for a couple of points somehow makes me wonder if that is enough detail ?? I'm sure study is completely different from when I did my GCSE exams and Nursing exam all those years ago. I also find it hard to concentrate and retain facts, I hope I can improve on that. I think I have to learn how to make notes again to help improve my memory.

Gosh, 4 hours, do you mean to read through the unit and answer took that time altogether. I hope you don't mean just to answer took that time, then I know I must be in trouble:-( I have read it through in its entirety (unit1), a couple of times the past couple of nights, so i'll go through that again today, and try to sort through what the questions ask for this evening.

Do you study online or use the text book and send your paper in that way, or maybe email it in? I did apply for online, but got sent the textbook and cannot access the online questions, even though I can get into "my lessons" page. I don't find an icon to click on to open the lesson. I have tried to email them, but for some reason my email keeps getting sent back as not being accepted or something. I've wasted so much time already, I don't want to wait longer so must really start this weekend, and try to get my first test paper sent in before Monday.

I'm wondering also if its polite to introduce myself to the tutor when I send my paper in. Like I said I'm so out of touch, and unsure.

I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions, but I'd sure appreciate some friendly advice . Thanks, have a great day!

Liz

Hi Rosie, I've just submitted my 2nd assignment an hour ago :-) I found this a bit more challenging too, and I'm never sure how much to write either, despite them saying as many lines a point approx. I tend to waffle on a bit I think, to be on the safe side, add a little bit extra.
I make notes when I read through it to try to understand it all a bit better, then write it all down again and re compose it when I answer the questions.
I'm not sure how I've done on this 2nd test, I was worried that I may have mixed up one of the questions and given the completely wrong answer. Have to wait and see now. Hope you get through it ok

No....I jumped straight in at level 3. :-0
I used to be a registered nurse many years ago, and have returned from abroad, so hope to able to find a position as HCA. I noticed everyone was asking for NVQ in Health and Social care. The problem is that you can't get a job without the minimum NVQ, but also you can't study for this, if your not working .....as a lot of the study requires ' hands on' assessments!! Go figure ! So that's why I thought that I'd do this course, at least it shows I'm willing to learn and something to add onto my CV.
I had hoped the fact that I had nursed for many years would show I have sufficient experience, but I'm wondering if that's the case. Maybe that extra piece of paper is what employers really need.
Remaining optimistic :-)

Well done! Well I think your on the right track, as I think this Diploma should help you get into a Uni course. To be honest, I'm not sure how you would proceed, everything is so different now. When I entered nursing (back in the good old days) , everything was much simpler. While I was waiting for my gsces, just in case, I sat an application test at the Nursing school attached to the Hospital I was based at. S I had the grades either way. Now it's all at University I think, higher Diploma's, etc....many more types of nursing roles.
Is there not a Career advisor you could talk to. Or maybe check out the nearest Uni when you can study, and contact them, and find out the requirements for entry. Worth a try, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

You've already been a big help thankyou, I've looked on the uni website I want to attend and it says I need ucas points aswell as a diploma. My other option is a nursing cadet program in Oldham, to get into that I need a C or above in science, maths and English aswell as the diploma

Hi again. I passed my second assignment :-)

I think you can probably re sit your GCSE using distance learning as well. Some sites offer quite cheap courses.

Prabably quite easy, just revision if you have already just completed it not long ago at school. Worth doing while its still fresh in your mind, or check out a local college offering part time or evening classes.

Good luck!

Hi all, I've just enrolled a few days ago on the hd&c level 3. How r u all finding it so far?
Hoping to do the HND after this, can't go to UNi now. So will do the foundation and probably do the last year at uni for social work.
Any tips? Are they checking for referencing?
Do the assignments have to be a special word count ? Just wondering I am waiting for my first one to be delivered !

Hi kerrrie, you should not wait for online lesson anymore, because I got enroll today and I asked when I will receive these lesson online which I can read and then do the tests after each lesson. They informed me that, I will be sent a book in the post despite of the fact that I am doing online. The book will have all the lesson information in it. may be you already have that book. so read that book and after each lesson only you are able to submit test online. You will not have the lesson online. just the test:

This is what I have been told today if you doing Health and social care diploma at level 3.

 i.    Identify what skills, knowledge and behaviours
require from you to do the job well.

ii.    Look at the skills, knowledge and
behaviours you actual have to do the job.

iii.   Compare actual with require and identify
the gaps. These are your development needs.

The about 3 points were what I presented to answer the question and I was given a pass remark. OR Google Warwick - Learning and Development Centre,  for more clarifications. Best luck!

I everyone! I have just started reading for the 7 th module, and will hopefully get that in tomorrow.

I'm enjoying the course, and no they don't have to have a word count. I read somewhere in the handbook they sent me that it's sort of the same amount of lines per mark. So if it a 2 point answer, then it usually means a couple of lines is enough. Having said that, I rarely stick to that unless I just have to list an answer , so "give 4 types of (whatever) ", then I write a four line answer, (list.) otherwise I often embroider and fill it out, and write lots more especially if I'm unsure of what they want from me. It's worked so far :-)

Good luck everyone!

It's good to hear you are all doing so well.
I have been reading/studying and am now ready to complete assignment 1.
This maybe a daft question, but can anyone give me a clue on how to structure the assignment? Did you write in an essay format, including an answer to all of the questions or did you simply answer the questions one by one?
Be great to hear how you guys are doing it.
Thanks
Kerrie

Hi Kerrie,
I personally write mine on Word doc and write at the top in middle, name of course, under it my name and student no.

Then under that I write Question paper on assignment 1. Eg

And again under that , I write the Q 1 and the question , as you have to include that when you upload a test paper

Then underneath the answer, sometimes that requires in essay format sometimes you can list answers. Just make ur paper look nicely formatted.

Don't forget to save it to ur computer when u finish, then go to your student page and upload it ...not hard at all. You'll get a received email back and then get the result in a few days.

Hope that helped...good luck! :-)

Sorry, I hope you got what I was saying, looks a bit jabbled when I re read it.

So you just continue on, writing each Q. , and under it the answer using how many marks for each Q. Lets you know roughly how much you are expected to write. As I said it may need just a short intro and a list of 4 things for 4 points. Or you may need to embroider and a composition of your views, how you would deal with a given situation, what could be done etc.

Okay bit better, don't worry you'll soon get the hang of it

Hi there

I was also a little worried at first about structuring the assignments, however took Liz's advise above. I wrote the questions and then answered it underneath, I then carried on with the next question etc.
I hope this helps.
Good luck with the course.

Hi all.

I've just received my course paper work, and am really confused. I've tried to phone for info but no-one is available to help me at the moment. My course pack names loads of papers I have been sent, but I have several differently named sheets of paper, and some that don't seem to be there altogether. I am also confused when it tells me that I will be sent the next question paper on successfully completing the one I send in. In the case of units that require reflective accounts and witness statements, how is this possible when they only want these submitted at the very end of the course?

I've only just finished my level 2, and had an assessor visit my workplace on several occasions, so the idea that my Manager only has to complete one final witness report seems a little strange. Is this correct, or am I missing some paperwork?

Grateful for any help you guys can give...

I know how you feel. What with working 40 hours a week shift work I am struggling to find the time for all of the written work. I average about 12 - 15 pages of typed assignments plus 2-4 reflective accounts + the odd designed leaflet per assignment. Am I doing too much or is this really what is needed to fully answer the questions and provide evidence?
