Hello,
There was no availability left :(
So will have to wait for the next one. Only i cannot do the July one because i am away on holiday, and they are not running one in August. So i have to wait till September now! But at least I am booked in. They are going to let me know if anyone drops out of the June one. If i hear anything i will let you know. I am currently working my way through the final exam

There is plenty of work out there but you will need to work hard to build a business just like any other business.
You will be given plenty of information in lessons 11 and 12.
While you are training it is a good idea to get yourself known in the local community, so when you actually start working people know who you are. It is a essential to make contact with local chiropodists to let them know what you are planning to do. You will need good relations with them as you will need to be able to refer to them those complicated patients that you can't treat yourself. It is also polite and professional to meet other FHPs in the area and tell them that you will be setting up in business soon. That way they won't think you are trying to steal their patients !
When you get qualified you can really get started and do some serious advertising. Yellow pages is a good publication as it has a Foot Health section where people can look for you. You will need to buy a good-szed advert as rmember elderly people may have eyesight problems and may not be able to need small print. The YP rep will advise you about getting the most out of your advertising.
You will also need to either write to or go and visit all the nursing/care homes in the area to introduce yourself and tell them about your service.
You will need to have your prices sorted out by this time but you will be given help with a business plan and advice as to what you should put on your business stationary. Make sure it is always professional and reflects the type of service you are giving.
HTH.

hi Janet good luck i have to say i am finding it tough going, have stuggled half way through as for having a good client base once you have qualified as far as i know depending where you are i think there will be a good demand it may take awhile to pick up but if you get a name i can imagine you will be really busy lol well thats what i am hoping for for myself x

developing a market strategy this isnt the same as a business plan is it ?

No, a business plan is what you take to the bank if you need to get a loan ! A business plan is a formal statement of a set of business goals, the reasons they are believed attainable, and the plan for reaching those goals. It will include your costings and projected income.
A market strategy is how you intend to reach the market you want. For example do you want to do leafletting or formal advertising? What paper or magazine will you choose? What is your target market? What is your competition in the area? How is your business going to be different from what is already there ie What is your USP = Unique selling point?

Foot Health Practitioner Job.

Hi, Im looking for a FHP to work for a minimum of 6mths with the option of longer if it suits them, in my foot clinic in Portchester (Hampshire). Its a busy clinic based in a Chiropractic Clinic so lots of foot fall (no pun intended) its based on a fee share scheme. Its a great way to hone you skills and find out if its for you with out any outlay.
I qualified as a FHP in 2010 and have just qualified as a Podiatrist, so I know how hard it can be to start a new career and I would like to offer a helping hand to a fellow FHP. Drop me a line at admin@portchesterfootclinic.co.uk for more info.
Thanks for you time.

Hi, I completed the course with 2 weeks practical and am still busy as an FHP.

Apart from paying in instalments, what about getting a Career Development Loan from one of the high street banks?

Well you'll treat the same amount of people in 5 days, you're just going to have some later finish times! You will cover everything you need to start your own business. I chose the 2 week course as it's a bit less pressured and I'm not as young as I used to be :)
