Hi there
Today I attended an interview for my 50 hr school placement and was given a place - Yay! Much rellieved!
My question is:
I do actually have the old CRB check - however it is from a few years ago!
Can this still be used instead of a DBS or do you stilll need to get DBS?
who's responsibility is it to get the DBS check - is it the placement? or Stonebridge college? - which is what the school think!
Hope someone can help and answer my query ;-)

I think you will have to get a DBS check done and i was told that if your placement is voulentary you have to pay for the check your self as it is for your own benefit i hope this helps

Surely if you are a volunteer it's for the benefit of the school too as they're getting a free member of staff?

Well yes and no.... Sometimes volunteers can really help and at other times although well meaning they can cause problems. I've noticed there was another volunteer at my placement that kept on asking questions to the put where she slowed things down....Also if you don't help and slack it maybe annoying as to why you are actual ly there

It's you that needs to sort that out unfortunately... Look up disclosure and barring service on the net or you can get a form from your LA. Good luck it takes about 2-3 weeks to clear

You can not use crb, it will be too old. School will have to do the dbs check for you and it is up to school weather they make you pay or not

I assume it will be the same across the board, but the school sent me the link to apply for the DBS check, but they had to request it from the LEA. Took a couple of weeks but they sent it direct to me.

It's quite strange but as far as I was lead to believe, each DBS check is requested by the organisation where you are going to be employed as each DBS check is specific to that organisation.  Even if you apply for one yourself, some places won't accept it as they need one applied for at that time for themselves.

They are supposed to be transferable that's why you as an individual pay the £13 subscription - it keeps it live, BUT I know mgs trusts do automatically request a copy every time.
