Change of Awarding Body

At the end of March 2014 NCFE announced that it will soon cease to endorse courses through their IIQ
licensing programme. A change in awarding body occurs once every decade or so in the distance learning industry as awarding bodies shift to meet their own business objectives, and NCFE’s action affects all distance learning providers currently working with them, including Stonebridge.

Following NCFE’s announcement we have been approached by several other awarding bodies wishing to take up the important regulatory function on our behalf. After extensive research, careful attention, and a critical quality assurance assessment, we are proud to announce that we have been accepted into partnership with ABC Awards, a highly respected, Ofqual approved, national awarding organisation with a long-established reputation for developing and awarding high quality vocational qualifications.

What does this mean for you? As of 31st July, 2014, our courses will be converted to ABC Awards and those students who successfully complete an ABC accredited course will receive the new ABC Awards Certificate of Achievement. Students will also receive a full Learner Unit Summary to accompany your certificate, which can be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this sector. This is one of the major new benefits for our learners studying ABC accredited courses, as this has not previously been given to students.

Please read the following information carefully and take note of the important dates:

1) All students who successfully complete their course prior to 31st July, 2014, will automatically receive the NCFE Award Certificate of Achievement.

2) All students who successfully complete their course after 31st July, 2014, will automatically benefit from receiving the ABC Awards Certificate of Achievement and Learner Unit Summary.

3) Those students who are due to complete their course prior to 31st July, 2014, and wish to upgrade to the ABC Awards Certificate of Achievement and Learner Unit Summary will need to contact us to request this.

4) If you wish to receive the NCFE Award Certificate of Achievement after 31st July, 2014, you MUST:
a. Contact us directly by phone on +44 (0) 1288 356300 prior to 31st July, 2014, to let us know.
b. Additionally, you will be required by NCFE to successfully complete your course no later than 31st August, 2015.

In summary, our partnership with ABC Awards is a significant improvement for the college in terms of quality assurance and recognition. For more information on this partnership, please visit www.stonebridge.uk.com/abc-awards.

We are also more than happy to discuss these changes with all students on an individual basis. Please either call us on +44 (0) 1288 356300 or email us your contact number for a call back and we will be happy to explain the change to you and clear up any questions or concerns you may have.

Hello Stonebridge!

Just to clarify, don't NCFE also provide a Learner Unit Summary alongside the Certificate of Achievement? I do quite clearly remember seeing links to both certificate and unit summaries on the main website when you had NCFE displayed as your accrediting partner.

Thanks for confirming this for me.

Oh, ok... it's just that the Learner Unit Summary offered by ABC has exactly the same format as the one I saw that NCFE issue students with, as far as I can remember. How can the two possibly differ?

Is it simply because NCFE are withdrawing their accreditation for these types of courses? But surely a certificate and its accompanying Unit Summary remains valid indefinitely?

As you say, accrediting bodies change every decade or so. By that logic then, if the NCFE Unit Summary is no longer valid, then ABC's Unit Summary would also become invalid after the awarding bodies change again....

Could you confirm that the NCFE Unit Summary is valid like the ABC Unit Summary and perhaps show links to both documents so that myself and other students can see the differences between them, if there are any?

Thanks for your time!

Hi Annabelle,

We’re so sorry for the late reply to your most recent comment.
Our forum moderation team simply missed this one. We’d like to provide further
clarification anyway, and hopefully it will help.

While the Unit Summary documents from both awarding bodies are
similar in presentation and structure, the Learner Unit Summary from ABC Awards
may be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning, or the
recognition of non-certificated learning towards a full or partial unit or
qualification, where applicable.

Both Unit Summary documents remain valid, as do their award
certificates, indefinitely.

If you have any further questions about our change in awarding
body, please contact us directly on 01288 356300.

like Annabelle I too have grave concerns regarding the change of awarding body and the lack of information to past students. Reading Stonebridge replies it appears that the NCFE qual has no currency, so what is Stonebridges plan of Action . During my recent practical we were asked if anyone was going on to further their knowledge at university and become a chiropodist/ podiatrist, which I now learn is not an option. therefore I would like the upgrade ASAP. I would appreciate a rapid reply

Hi Susan,

We understand the change of awarding body can be confusing and can create
concern among some students. We have had no intention of making NCFE awards
appear to have no currency, so we apologise if that is what you have been made
to believe. We ask that you please contact our student support team directly on
01288 356300 so that they can assist you. Be sure to have your student number
handy when you call so that they can quickly pull up your record.

Hello Stonebridge.I FINISHED TA level 3 course with your college last month, but it is a really great problem to get a proper answer when will I receive my certificate. Your staff who answer the calls have no information about it and the only phrase that they can repeat is that it takes 4- 6 weeks, they told it to me month before and they told the same a week before. I do not understand whether you have send the certificate to me at al. its really upsetting not to have a proper answer and you are not taking any actions at all. hopefully you respond to this post properly and i will get a proper answer , and post will not be deleted because of my complaint. thanks
