Calling ALL Herbalists/Aromatherapists! Interested in a Facebook page for us to discuss herbs/oils/stories,etc?

I was thinking of starting a Facebook group so we could all:

Share ideas on how our courses are progressing,
Share facts about interesting plants and herbs used personally,
Discover future business collaborations/friendships after achieving our diplomas!

What do you think?

Although the page would be open to anyone with an interest in using plants, I thought it would be of particular interest to those studying:

Master Herbalist (Phytotherapy)
Herbalism
Clincal Herbalism
Medicinal Herbs
Culinary Herbs

But of course, anybody on an Aromatherapy course could also be interested (using plant essential oils and all!)

So how about it? Please let me know; it would be great to hear in your response below.

If 5+ people respond, I'll start making a page! ;)

nutrition, herbs and alternative therapies.

Hi!  I have waited for ages to find some nutritional course that are affordable and easy to get into to and am grateful for learning about Stonebridge related courses at this time.  I  have learned a lot on my own in throughout the years and found a few websites quite helpful  http://www.soilandhealth.org/ a free online library and http://www.herballegacy.com/ which offers lots of information on the website.  I am hoping to find some buddies here to support each other with in discussing topics related to health, exchanging information and finding solutions to problems.

So that makes 4 people (including myself) who are interested in joining/contributing to a Facebook Group.

What should we call it?

"Stonebridge Colleges' Herbal Students Group"

"SAC's Phytotherapy/Nutritional/Aromatherapy Group"

"Let Food by thy Medicine!! A Flower Power Collective" (only joking...)

Any ideas?

... if one more person shows interest, I'll make it! ;)

Well we still only have 4 people interested so far (who have commented) and I said I wouldn't make a Facebook Group until we have 5+ people interested...

But.... I have gone and made a Facebook Group anyway!

Please search for "Stonebridge Herbalists, Nutritionists and Aromatherapists" on Facebook.

Or alternatively follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/758131437539669/

Hi Annabelle! Well done on getting a Facebook study group going. We like to pop in to these groups every now and again to see if we can help with anything, but for the most part, we'll just let you get on with it. Please will you add us to the group? You'll need to add this profile: https://www.facebook.com/stonebridge.colleges. Thanks!

Hi all, I am taking a nutrition diploma, but am also into herbs and various alternative therapies.  In your experience what is the best herb or recipe to help the immune system against environmental allergies etc.

Also, I wanted to ask if anyone knows  what could be the causes of being so sensitive to any commercial products for the house, body products etc.

Hello Vincensa!

Regarding your questions, I would always recommend flavonoids to combat allergens, particularly quercetin. You can find this particular flavonoid in apples and red onions, and in these herbs: dill and lovage.

Regarding causes of sensitivity, that is a question that scientists from all medical backgrounds are still struggling with. There are many factors that cause someone to become allergic (we become allergic because the immune system basically makes a mistake). Sometimes it is following a viral infection that allergies develop, other times it is because we are living in too much of a sanitised environement. The hygiene hypothesis suggests allergies are increasing in our populations because we do not allow ourselves to build strong enough immune systems, i.e we are not exposing our children to enough pathogens to allow them to develop a robust immune system.

Hope to see you on the Facebook group!

Herbalism - Assignment 3 Reference Question.

I'm currently working on assignment 3 for the herbalism course. I was wondering as I have to do my own research for it. Do I need to reference where I got my information from.

Yes it's still running but has been very inactive lately... I myself finished this course over a year ago! I will add you to the group when I return home.
