Hi all. I have received my text book for this today and have been going through the forums ... please tell me this is a recognised qualification at the end of this???
I have arranged my own placement [which was a nightmare to sort as no-one was keen on taking on someone who was not actually at college]
Would also be nice to chat to someone who is doing the course for extra support
Thank you!

I've just completed my 1st assignment and I'm still trying to get my placement. Have also found it hard. It is fully recognised at the end as I've done this before just down the social side.

Hi Vickie, there is a Facebook page already set up with a few members. It is called Stonebridge level 3 early years educator study group, but it is a closed group, so not sure if I need to add you! What name do you go by on Facebook? I would like to join your group too, but can't find it? Michelle x

Hi. I have a level 2 certificate for the children and young people's workforce. I want to enrol in this course and I believe you can help me. I just got a job as bank staff in some nurseries. Could I use that nurseries as placement? How long does it take to finish the course?

Hi I have just enrolled, looking forward to my text book arriving. I work in a pre school 17 hours a week  and volunteer on my free days in a primary school, as well as having 3 children of my own. Feeling a little nervous of getting back to the learning experience

Hi, I have just started this course too- I've just done the first assignment as well. I am a home base child-minder and an ex nurse- 20 years plus of nursing experience- I have given nursing up as the hours do not fit with children/child care so decided to gain a child care course after setting up my own child care home based service, which is Ofsted registered. I will use the children I care for as the practical elements- is anyone else a home based child minder???

Thanks Danielle. Im just really confused with what I should be doing! Do you take your reflective sheets and fill it out at your placement or do you do all the writings at home? Ive done 15 hours already and havnt filled out any sheets yet. Will be doin assignment 1 today hopefully things will be more clearer!

Hi Dora, I would also like to know how to fill in those sheets, because I failed my first unit by not having the practical attached. I am about to submit Unit 1.2 and want to do it right this time.

Hi All! I started this course recently as well, I have already submitted Unit 1.1 and about to submit Unit 1.2 tomorrow, but I am struggling to figure out how to submit the practical work done at the setting?! Can anyone help me please?! I have gotten very good feeback for Unit 1.1, but failed the unit due to not submitting practical work. But I explained to them that I did that ubnit before I started at my setting. Now I am at my setting 3 days per week (22.5 hours), but I am not sure how to add the practical to my test when I upload it. I really do not want to fail any more units. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you xx

Hi, as far as I'm aware you submit all the practical evidence at the end of the course usually, although you can send it via post after each assignment if you wish x

Hi Rachel,

As detailed in the course description you need to have a placement(s) of 350 hours in a suitable child care setting. This can be full or part time, paid or unpaid.

GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above are required before your Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce qualification can be counted in any employer’s setting ratio numbers at level 3.

If you are aged 24+ years and applying for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan, then you will need to have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.

Please note: We do offer GCSE courses that you can study alongside your qualification if you have not yet achieved the required grades: GCSE MathsGCSE English.

Best regards,

Stonebridge Colleges

As stated in the course information, you must have a placement in order to complete this course. Please contact the tutorial department directly on 01288 356 300 so that we can advise you on how students usually arrange their placements.

Hi can the 350 hours be in one room for instance the pre-school room or does it have to be staggered? I've just started a new position in a nursery and don't want to mess them about! X

Good morning Sarah,

In order to get the most out of your placement, we strongly advise that placements should be done in at least 2 different settings to cover the following age ranges:

Age range                                                                                           Hours

0 – 1 year 11 months (working with babies)                                         25

2 – 2 years 11 months (working with toddlers)                                    133

3 – 5 years (working with pre-school children)                                    192

If you have a placement in a setting which provides care and education for children and allows you to get the required experience across these three age ranges then you do not need to do a placement outside of this one setting.

Best regards,

Stonebridge Colleges
