this question has probably been asked a million times! - but I'm starting a fresh to keep it at the top of the list ;)

have you, or anybody you know, gone on to work in their chosen field after a stonebridge course?

my self I'm studying clinical herbalism, aromatherapy, and hypnotherapy (which I want to change - was going to be clinical nutrition but having seen another post about the quality of the material I think I'll give that one a miss! lol) - and am hoping to practice as a medical herbalist (once I've been to uni and got my degree that is!) but so far enjoying learning new things getting ready for Uni!

I will keep positive and keep looking and do work experience. All the best with your studies and uni! :)

Yes my partner has become a foot health practitioner following his training with Stonebridge. His success is the reason why I decided to do the Advanced diploma in diet and nutrition.
What has to be a must is a visit to your local enterprise agency to get help with setting up a business. There are basic steps that need to be followed to promote yourself and build up a client base. Advice on Marketing, managing your books, registering as a business or sole trader etc.etc. Learning new skills is just the start of the journey unless you know of employers looking to recruit in the area that you chose to train in.
I hope that helps!

Hi Rebecca and Chris!

@reb: hows the hunt going? any joy? you certainly seem nice and upbeat about it all though! which is definitely the best way to go about finding you new dream job!

@chris: that's brilliant! success stories are always nice to read about! I'm doing the clinical nutrition course now in place of hypnotherapy, how are you finding it? I've applied to uni to read Medical herbalism bsc(hons) and although they don't accept stonebridge qualifications as an access course for the degree, I'm hoping it will show prior interest in the field, knowledge etc to stand me in good stead for my interview!

best of luck to both of you!

Hi Mark,

I'm enjoying the course, I have loads of ideas to move forward with.
I think that if you are going to Uni then having completed a course like this will be of great benefit. It demonstrates self motivation, an interest in the subject area, a good ethic to studying, research etc.

Best wishes
Chris

Just my final to take now and then I'm off to a new career and guess what? I have already got my first commission lined up for the summer. To succeed I think that there is a need to be pro-active. I've taken on two clients pro bono, good experience for me and great value for them both as they come from financially deprived backgrounds.
I think that having clients helps in self promotion as then it means you can speak from experience.

I did the Foot health course about a year ago and have struggled to get work. There are far too many other practitioners in the area and the fee I can charge has to be low to get any work. I would advise anyone to check out what is going on in yours area before you do the course.

It is very important to research your market before you even take the course. It is OK saying "Oh good, there aren't many chiropodists here, I think I'll start a foot health business." That doesn't always work because there could be quite a few people who don't advertise and just work on recommendations. You could also ask yourself why there are so few chiropodists in an area, Could it be that there just isn't enough work? It is important to build good relationships with chiropodists/podiatrists so that they will be able to pass any work on to you that they can't deal with. Communication is a two-way street and it is always a good idea to let any existing practices in your area (Chiropodists/FHPs) know about you so they can pass any work your way. Networking is essential for good marketing.
